SALES

SDCR-SALES

At San Diego Cable Railings we offer sales of railing systems to contractors, do it yourself homeowners, designers, and retail outfits. For these types of installations we typically design packages that do not require special tooling to perform the installation. We call these “pre made” assemblies. Our “premade” assemblies usually feature a swaged end on one side of a pre cut cable, and a loose packaged “quick connect” or wedge fitting with a cap on the other end. Pre made assemblies come made to order. Cable orders come complete with all necessary hardware and fittings; and there is little or no waste. In most cases these assemblies are good for distances of up to 50’.

For commercial and or pre/framed contractor systems with hard measurements we can also fabricate systems with swaged assemblies on both ends. In addition, we can provide tool rental, hand crimped fittings and assemblies, and field consultations. Our goal as a company is to provide assistance for all types of installers and we have found that no two installs are alike. Whether you will install one cable railing at your home, or hundreds as a professional contractor, our aim is to make it as easy an cost effective as possible; while providing an option outside of costly and many times prohibitive retail systems.

ACCESSORIES

In addition to cable railing systems we can provide other accessories to assist with your cable installation. For contractors and homeowners alike we can provide drilling templates custom made per installation and cable spacing. These drilling templates will insure proper spacing and a professional look when used properly in combination with a pre made system cable system.

POST SYSTEMS

For many contractors and homeowners we can pre make posts and railing systems of all types. Whether it is a wooden, hardwood, or steel system, we can cut, paint, powder coat, seal, stain, and pre drill, posts and rails to offer a pre packaged railing system. For special needs and sizing; we can do milling, surfacing, and custom made assemblies.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION

The installation of a cable railing system requires structural and aesthetic considerations to ensure a safe and beautiful end result. At San Diego Cable Railings we have provided a wide variety of installations under all kinds of building conditions. We are capable of building with almost any material; whether it be soft woods, hardwoods, steel, aluminum, or stainless. We also offer structural + composite material combinations which incorporate wood or steel as the structural members, and composite materials for top railings and trim.
Although we have seen photographs and numerous marketing materials for composite cable railing installations; we DO NOT install stainless cable railing systems on composite posts, post sleeves, or composite railing kits. Stainless cable systems require structural materials that can withstand tremendous tensioning. At the present time and to the best of our knowledge composite materials have not been engineered to withstand tensioning or structural applications.

CONTRACTOR SERVICES

ATTENTION CONTRACTORS, HOME BUILDERS, LANDSCAPERS, ARCHITECTS:

We would love to add you to our list of preferred customers. On several occasions our bids for cable and installation have met or beaten competitors pricing for cable alone!

We realize that many potential customers do not need a full scale installation. Many or our regular customers are perfectly capable of framing and installing their own cable systems. Furnishing cable railings to installers is a large part of our business. We also realize that many contractors still don’t know what is available and that custom made systems can still be fast, easy, and cost effective. There is no waste; there is no extra material; you do not purchase extra fittings; and you can speak with a technician who is versed in cable railing installation; not a sales person. We can even guide you through your installation.

At SDCR we offer contractor discounts between 10%-30% on cable systems as well as tiered pricing for contractors who install more than 10 cable railings per year. Being a pro should have benefits; skill and knowledge are valuable; and we love working with contractors who are versed at cable installation and want to offer a solid product at a great price.

In addition to our contractor discounts, we can provide tooling and accessories not available at retail locations. We custom make drilling templates to any spec. and sell cable crimping tools, cutters, and accessories. We can make you a kit; help with finishing options; and furnish cable and fittings in bulk. Contractors that have worked with us are amazed at the ease and cost base we are able to provide to them and they return again and again. Once you have installed cable it is very hard to return to traditional wood and composite railing systems

WOOD FRAMED CABLE SYSTEMS

WOOD FRAMED CABLE RAILING SYSTEMS

Wood framed cable railing systems consist of wood framed structural members and stainless cable railing infill. Most commonly 36” or 42” height systems are constructed for residential and commercial applications. Common types of wood framing consist of Douglas Fir, Cedar, Redwood, and South American Hardwood species such as Ipe’ and Mangaris.

Wood framed railings are the most common among installations and also the most cost effective way to construct a cable railing. All cable railing systems require structural considerations pertaining to spans and tensioning. Soft woods require more consideration than hardwoods. At SDCR we have constructed and installed cable railing systems from all of the above mentioned species. We have conducted strength tests in our production facility on all systems and common railing heights and recommended cable spacings. We have even incorporated composite materials into wooden framed railing systems when applicable. Wooden systems are a great option for deck and stair railings; and also a great option for fencing. Fencing installations are becoming more and more popular among our hillside and coastal residential clientele.

Wood framed railings can be made to look rustic or modern, painted, stained, or left to weather naturally. Our preferred method of installation is with the use of South american hardwood species as they are more durable, maintain cable tension, and are much stronger than soft wood systems. Special hardware and fittings are used with wood framing systems to guarantee that the cable will not bite into the wood and that tension will be maintained. Re tensioning may be necessary with wood framed systems and should be done by a professional, or someone who has been educated about tensioning sequence and approved loading.

At SDCR we have the ability to furnish wood framing kits with pre cut and drilled posts and several finish options. In addition, we can provide full scale installation or consultations for those who desire to install or purchase a wood framed system.

Due to call volume and demand much of our estimating is done on line via the SDCR website, email, or by phone. Site visits and consultations are available per request and by appointment only. Please visit our product page for more information and pricing on wood framed cable railing systems.

STEEL FRAMED SYSTEMS

STEEL FRAMED CABLE RAILING SYSTEMS

Steel framed cable railing systems are composed of steel post framing and top railings. Wooden or hardwood top railings can also be used with steel post framing systems. Most commonly used materials for steel framing are mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Steel posts can range from 1.5” to 2.25” in thickness and are typically round or square tube steel. Plate steel can also be used in these systems.

Steel framed railings are less common than wooden installations largely due to the higher price point and longer fabrication times involved; however the strength and durability of these systems is superior to wooden framing. Commercial systems are more typically framed in steel. At SDCR we have performed installations of with all of the above mentioned steel framing types. Steel systems are the only option for top mounted systems to masonry decks and stub walls where post setting or fascia bolt up is not an option. Steel framed railings are a great option for decking, fencing, and interior projects alike.

Steel framed railings are more common in modern, contemporary, or industrial style railings. Cable tension happens much faster; and is more easily sustained with steel systems. There is less chance of bending or damaging a steel system due to over tensioning.

At SDCR we are capable of furnishing steel framing kits with pre-made post and cable assemblies. We can also provide full scale installation, design services, and consultations for those who desire to install or purchase a steel framed cable system. Common finishes on our steel framed systems are as follows:

  • Mill, Polished, or Brushed Aluminum and Stainless
  • Powder Coating–Wide Color Variety
  • Primed and Painted
